茶色く乾いた岩肌が剥き出しのドロミテの山々に、まるで修正液で引いたような白い線が一本だけ伸びている―
2026年2月に世界が目にするのは、雄大な白銀の世界ではなく、人工雪で作られた「白いリボン」（White Ribbon）の上で行われる、いびつな冬の祭典です。
かつて「環境五輪」を謳ったはずのオリンピックは今、開催のために膨大な水と電力を飲み込む環境破壊の装置になりました。
アルプスから雪が消えゆく中、私たちはいつまでこの矛盾を直視せずにいられるのでしょうか。
90%が「偽物の冬」
「ドロミテには雪がある」というのは、過去の神話になりました。
最新の調査では、2026年ミラノ・コルティナ五輪における人工雪の使用率は、90%から100%に達すると予測されています。
かつて人工雪は自然雪の「補助」でしたが、今や主役です。
大会運営には約240万m3の雪が必要とされ、その製造には約95万トンもの水が消費されます。これはオリンピックプール380杯に相当します。
2022年北京大会もほぼ100%人工雪でしたが、北京はもともと乾燥地帯です。しかし今回は、冬の象徴であるはずのアルプスでさえ、機械の力を借りなければ冬を演出できなくなっていることが、白日のもとにさらされるのです。
スキー場 vs 農家「水戦争」の勃発
この大量の水消費は、単にコストの問題というだけではなく、生存をかけた水戦争の引き金になりかねません。
開催地である北イタリア・ポー川流域では、近年、歴史的な干魃に見舞われています。農業用水が不足し、作物が枯れる中で、スキー場が貯水池を作って水を独占することに、地元住民や環境団体の怒りが爆発しています。

なぜ2週間のイベントのために水を撒くのか？
この問いには、未だに誰も答えていません。スノーマシンが雪を吐き出せば吐き出すほど、地域の分断が深まっています。
IOCを侵食する温暖化の恐怖
科学が五輪に警告する
では、冬季五輪はいつまで続けられるのでしょうか。
カナダ・ウォータールー大学はこう予測しています。これは科学の冷酷な「余命宣告」です。
「温室効果ガスの排出の高排出シナリオでは、2080年までに、過去に冬季五輪を開催した21都市のうち、安全に競技を実施できるのは『札幌』だけになる」
アルプスの雪線（雪が積もる境界線）は年々上昇しており、標高の低いリゾートはすでに壊滅しています。2050年には、現在の開催候補地の半数が気候的に不適格になるとされています。
IOCもこの現実を理解しています。だからこそなりふり構わぬ延命手段にうって出ました。
なぜ2030・2034が同時に決まったのか
ここで、「2030年フランス・アルプス、2034年ソルトレイクシティの同時決定」の意味が、鮮明になります。
IOCが異例の2大会同時決定を急いだ理由は、効率化ではありません。
- 「10年後に確実に開催できる場所を確保しなければならない」
- 「その間に将来の冬季五輪の生き残り策を決めければならない」
そういう恐怖にも似た危機感に突き動かされたからです。
気候変動のスピードが速すぎて、10年後どこから雪が消えるかわからない。だからこそ、現時点で確実に開催能力がある高地のソルトレイクを、予約するしかなかったのです。
「白い麻薬」が温暖化を加速
人工雪は、スキー産業にとって「白い麻薬」といえます。
- 一度手を出せば、気温が上がるほどさらに多くの雪が必要になる。
- エネルギー消費量が上がり、環境負荷が高まる。
- それが温暖化を加速させる
この負のループから抜け出せなくなるからです。
2026年に私たちが画面越しに見る白いリボンは、アスリートにとっては晴れ舞台ですが、ウィンタースポーツ全体が発する悲鳴かもしれません。
